Archaeology is the sub-division of anthropology. Archaeology is the study of old monuments, relics, inscriptions, excavation sites etc. Archaeologists investigate and report about the events occurred in a particular period in history. They also are responsible for maintaining the historical buildings and cultural heritage of a country.

 

JOB PROSPECTS :

The job opportunities in this relatively not-so-popular career are limited but interesting for those who have a passion for history and historical events. Apart from being a full time archaeologist, one can become a Research Officer within the Historical Division of the Ministry of External Affairs and Archaeological Survey of India. There are some employment opportunities with the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, All India Handicrafts Board, Ministry of Education and Department of Tourism with the museums also.

 

COURSE DETAILS :

A degree in History is always preferred if you want a career in this line of archaeology. There are specializations offered at the post graduate level such as MA in History of Art, MA in Conservation of Works of Art, MA in Museology and the likes. If you are interested in short term courses then certain colleges and institutes offer one year or two years' certificate/diploma courses too.
